John Welsford has kindly sent me some recent photos of recently built Pathfinders. He says of this picture, "Seriously bad weather, a reef in the main and smoking along! Paul Groom out in 25/30 knots of it, one awful winters day, really going well. He could have used a crewman for extra ballast, but Varuna was coping well and the wet weather gear was only needed when the rain came down.
