Small Zeta

Junk rig sailing at Weymouth Harbour.     As a bermudan yacht.     On the River Crouch.

Small Zeta was my first venture in building a boat from a kit.  The hull and deck, along with various other components were purchased from Hunter Boats of Rochford, Essex.  Several members of the Up River Yacht Club at Hullbridge bought Hunter 19 kits at the same time within the terms of a specially reduced price package.

Owners raced their Hunters very competitively and several cruised them.  My 'Zeta' took me to Holland across the North Sea and back with an extensive cruise of the Dutch inland waters.  My wife and our youngest daughter joined the boat at Amsterdam for a fortnight's exploration of the Ijsselmeer.

Later, after cruising to Falmouth, I re-rigged 'Zeta' with a Chinese lugsail (junk).  The rig conversion made sailing her safer and easier.  Her windward performance was slightly less efficient, but on a reach or a run she was faster.
