It is my intention to assemble here a collection of excerpts from my boat logs, which until recently were buried under a pile of dust in the attic. The first article "Phillida 1" gives an account of the outward leg of a cruise from Exmouth to Alderney and, "Phillida 2" tells of the return passage.
Verbatim extracts from logs tend to be boring; therefore I'll be using a colloquial and anecdotal style in an effort to bring events to life. When reading these accounts you will not personally be exposed to physical danger, tiredness, seasickness, loneliness or anxiety, neither will you truly experience those wonderful moments of joy, exhilaration and satisfaction, which were exclusively mine. On the other hand, it is my hope you will gain a vicarious understanding of what has now become for me, 'A Voyage of Memories'.
Since the tender age of 13, everything about small sailing boats has been a compulsive hobby, and at the time of embarking on my voyage of memories I am in my 71st year.
This section of the Small Sailboats web site is dedicated to my good wife, June, who has always encouraged me in my selfish pursuit.
